Parenting Now!

Meet our Staff: Rita Gillihan

Rita Gillihan, Volunteer Coordinator/Resource Guide Editor

When did you join Parenting Now! and how did you find out about the organization?

I joined Parenting Now! in August of this year.  I learned about Parenting Now! by becoming familiar with their Resource Guide. Through previous volunteer work, I have used the Resource Guide to help parents involved with Child Welfare connect with needed resources in the community.

What’s your favorite thing about working at Parenting Now?

My favorite thing about Parenting Now! are my coworkers and volunteers!  As the Volunteer Coordinator, I work with a lot of different people in the office, and everyone is very warm and welcoming.

What would you like prospective volunteers to know about Parenting Now! that you think they may not realize or know?

One thing I would like prospective volunteers to know is how enriching the act of giving one’s time can be to their own lives. While Parenting Now! relies on volunteers in our effort to provide education and support to families, our volunteers also benefit.  Volunteering fosters a sense of accomplishment and helps one become more connected to their community. I truly enjoy getting to know our volunteers at Parenting Now! and am appreciative of their time and commitment to our nonprofit. I believe Parenting Now! is a great organization to volunteer for, as we have an inviting, warm atmosphere and get to work with some amazing families!
