Get to know our Board Member Julie Kollmorgen!
When did you join the Board and why?
I joined the Board in 2014, the year after my husband and I chaired the Annual Auction. I have always been passionate about the work that Parenting Now! does with strengthening families. I was honored to have been asked.
What’s your favorite thing about being on the Board?
My favorite thing about being on the board is being able to collaborate with other board members and staff who are as passionate as I am about PN!’s mission. We come together once a month, with the same goal, and together contribute to the success of the organization. It is so rewarding to be a part of such an amazing team and to be a part of the amazing work that they do.
Can you talk about your experience with being in a Parenting Now! group?
Being in a Parenting Now! group as a new parent without family in town was an incredible source of security for me. I had just moved to a new town and didn’t know a lot of people. As a new parent with a young child, it was so nice to meet with a group who had children within the same age group. We were able to support each other! It was nice to have a group who could all relate to one another and get together socially. It eventually became a play group for our kids and their siblings. We formed life-long friendships and continued to support one another!
What would you like prospective parents to know about Parenting Now! that you think they may not realize or know?
I would like them to know that PN! is an organization that does so much more than they probably realize in our community and nationally. Parenting Now! provides support and education so that all children are raised by nurturing and skilled parents. Make Parenting A Pleasure (MPAP) is a nationally recognized, group-based curriculum for parenting educators serving highly stressed parents of children 0-8. Evidence based and research-informed, a recent clinical trial found MPAP participants had improved symptoms of parental depression, improved parenting skills and knowledge of child development. Early prevention is so critical to create and sustain healthy, safe environments for children, and Parenting Now! provides the local and global community of parents and educators the tools and resources necessary to do that!
