Bilingual Parenting Educator, Crecer

General Purpose of Position:

To strengthen the parent-child relationship for families by increasing knowledge of child development, improving parenting skills, building a support system, providing community resources and referrals, and promoting self-sufficiency of parents.

Job Duties:

  • Be responsible for and oversee all aspects of the parenting group

  • Facilitate weekly discussion in the group (in person or Zoom) and present Make Parenting A Pleasure and/or Haga de la Paternidad un Placer curriculum effectively

  • Provide outreach to families before and after groups start

  • Prepare group content and physical set-up (when appropriate) in a timely manner

  • Keep appropriate paperwork such as attendance records, group agenda, telephone contact documentation, referral forms; distribute and collect evaluation measures

  • Comply with mandated reporting laws

  • Provide supervision to practicum students or interns

  • Communicate with Children’s Program Coordinator and Children’s Program staff

  • Maintain primary responsibility for confidentiality of participants

  • Refer parents to appropriate agencies as needed

  • Check and respond to emails and phone messages

  • Stay current on research regarding parent education and child development

  • Collaborate as needed with other community agencies

  • Attend required program and all staff meetings and trainings as well as workshops, community meetings and events

  • Other duties as assigned

Supervision Received From: Program Manager

Supervision Given To: Practicum students or interns

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Extensive knowledge of child development and parenting strategies

  • Group facilitation skills and group dynamics

  • Knowledge of local community resources

  • Effective interpersonal communication skills

  • Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals

  • Flexibility and accepting of different parental lifestyles and values

Desired Education and/or Experience:

  • BA Degree (Master’s level preferred) in child development, education, counseling or related field

  • Bi-lingual for Spanish and English, including writing skills

  • Zoom platform experience for group delivery

  • Professional experience working with young children

  • Experience working with low income and highly stressed individuals

  • Experience working with families involved with ODHS

  • Parenting or similar experience

This position is part-time, variable hours, mostly evenings and Saturdays. Compensation is $15.50-$17.00 per hour depending on experience and duties assigned.
