Beyond the Lecture: Applying the Principles of Adult Learning to Our Work with Parents, July 2021
July 27 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm$35
Join us for a Professional Development Workshop!
“If they just had more information, parents could be so much more effective!” we think to ourselves. Yet, despite how many times we tell parents what to do, their behavior does not change! Why is that?
The temptation to lecture to parents is great. Yet, despite how many times well-intentioned parenting educators tell parents what to do, parents’ behavior does not change. In fact, parents may even start dropping out of our groups or canceling home visits.
Join us to review the principles of adult learning theory, and share with other Parenting Educators your most effective ways to engage parents in their learning. Spanish language interpretation provided.
Workshop participants will:
- learn or review the principles of adult learning.
- learn about the Nine Events of Instruction and the goal for each of these events
- increase their confidence in facilitating parenting groups
- learn new activities and facilitation strategies to use in parenting groups
The curriculum draws on Malcolm Knowles’ theory of adult learning, called andragogy. Participants will also learn the Nine Events of Instruction developed by instructional design researcher Robert Gagne.
Registration is required to attend the live session, and space is limited.
