Linzer bars are a traditional Austrian pastry, a form of shortcake with fruit preserves and a lattice design on top. It is named after the city of Linz, Austria. The recipe dates back to 1653 and has been a special treat that families have enjoyed for many generations!

Kim Davaz is a food writer and cooking instructor. Until 2019, she wrote food and cookbook review stories for The Register-Guard for over 24 years. She once baked a wedding cake on what turned out to be the hottest day of the year, but she much prefers baking on a smaller scale. She tries to keep at least five pounds of butter in her freezer, just in case. Follow Kim on Instagram or Twitter.
