It has been a busy spring here at Parenting Now!. From our annual auction in March to our Family Matters event in June, Parenting Now! community members, and volunteers showed up to raise close to $150,000 for our parenting programs. Wow!
Events are always such a great way to get together with donors and supporters, but it is that bottom line that really makes the difference in the lives of families in Lane County and beyond.
At our annual auction, celebrated on St. Patrick’s Day, there were bagpipers, lots of green, and plenty of fun for the 250 guests in attendance. We heard inspiring words from Susan Cox, this year’s Champion of Children, as well as from recent participants from our Crecer and First Three Years programs—both speakers recognized the power of community and parenting education in helping support and strengthen families. Thank you to our Title Sponsor Valley River Inn, as well as all of the other corporate supporters for their assistance with this powerful event.
While only in its first year, the Mother’s Day 5K brought almost 60 people out to run—including families featuring three generations. We also received a fair amount of news coverage, so we expect to serve a lot more mimosas next year!
It was the second year for our Flights and Bites event up at Sarver Winery and it did not disappoint! The weather was amazing for sitting on a hilltop winery sipping wine and snacking on amazing food. It was a lovely date night for some of our recent alumni and we were so touched they decided to share it with us.
Over 30 volunteers made phone calls for us raising $12,000 in 3 evenings during the Phone a Thon. They fed off of your generosity and contacted over 1,000 households!
We wrapped up the season with our Family Matters breakfast. 150 people heard the inspiring story of Tracy Howard, a former teen parent, whose life was changed by Parenting Now! parent educator, Anita Quincy-Huffman. Tracy’s story was followed with remarks from former Eugene Mayor, Kitty Piercy. There were moments of tears from many in the room and donors gave and pledged over $17,000 for parenting education.
Thank you to all our supporters. We are so lucky to have so many of you as our friends!
